Clos Lucé, Amboise, Royaume de France / Reino de Francia /
Kingdom of France, 1519)

La belle ferronnière is a portrait of a woman, usually attributed to Leonardo da Vinci. It is also known as Portrait of an Unknown Woman. The painting's title, applied as early as the seventeenth century, identifying the sitter as the wife or daughter of an ironmonger (a ferronnier), was said to be discreetly alluding to a reputed mistress of Francis I of France, married to a certain Le Ferron. The tale is a romantic legend of revenge in which the aggrieved husband intentionally infects himself with syphilis, which he passes to the king through infecting his wife.

Federico Barocci (Baroccio)
(Urbino, Italia / Italy, 1535 - 1612)

"La circuncisión / The Circumcision", óleo sobre lienzo / oil on canvas, 374 x 252 cm., 1590

Federico Barocci was an Italian Renaissance painter and printmaker born in 1526.
His original name was Federico Fiori, and he was nicknamed Il Baroccio, which still in northwestern Italian dialects means a two wheel cart drawn by oxen. His work was highly esteemed and influential, and foreshadows the Baroque of Rubens.
The artist biographer Giovanni Bellori, the Baroque equivalent of Giorgio Vasari, considered Barocci to be among the finest painters of his time. Barocci's emotive brushwork was not lost on Peter Paul Rubens when he was in Italy. Rubens is known to have made a sketch of his dramatic Martyrdom of St Vitale, in which the martyr's undulating flesh is the eye of another whirlwind of figures, gestures, and drama. Also, Rubens' The Martyrdom of St Livinus seems to owe much to Barocci, from the putto with the pointing palm frond to the presence of dogs in the lower right corner.
He died in 1612.

"Retrato de Madame Récamier o retrato de Juliette Récamier /
Portrait de Madame Récamier ou Portrait de Juliette Récamier"
Óleo sobre lienzo / oil on canvas, 173 × 243 cm., 1800

Is a portrait of the Parisian socialite Juliette Récamier, showing her in the height of Neoclassical fashion, reclining on an Directoire style sofa in a simple empire line dress with almost bare arms, and short hair "à la Titus". He began it in May 1800 but may have left it unfinished when he learned that François Gérard had been commissioned before him to paint a portrait of the same model (Gerard's portrait was completed in 1802); on the other hand many David portraits have the same bare background. The pose of a reclining figure looking back over her shoulder was adopted in 1814 by Ingres for his Grande Odalisque.
