Aniversarios Fotografía (LXXVII) [Julio / July 1-5]

El 1 de Julio es el cumple de

Fritz Brill, artista publicitario, ilustrador y fotógrafo alemán nacido en 1904, que se dedicó a la fotografía industrial y publicitaria.
Se formó en Berlín la Kunstgewerbeschule (escuela de arte y artesanía), y en la escuela de Johannes Itten. Desde los años '30 vivió en Berlín dedicado a la fotografía. Trabajó en el estudio de Herbert Bayer y en 1932 fundó un estudio de diseño con Hedwig Bornemann.
En los '50 fundó el Institut für Photoanalyse, trabajando para clientes industriales y publicidad. Su trabajo fue reconocido rápidamente por su estilo de fotografía artística de los objetos. En lugar de utilizar la clásica fotoinstalación, realizaba montajes con tomas separadas de cada objeto y las combinaba luego en capas de imagen, lo que representó casi una anticipación de los montajes digitales actuales.
Murió en 1997.

El 2 de Julio es el cumple de

Thaddeus Holownia, artista y profesor canadiense nacido en Bury St Edmunds, Inglaterra, en 1949 . Actualmente es profesor de fotografía en la Universidad Mount Allison y es Jefe del Departamento de Bellas Artes.
Emigró con su familia a Canadá en 1954.
Asistió a la Universidad de Windsor donde estudió grabado y comunicaciones, graduándose en 1972. Sirvió con la National Film Board de Canadá y luego se unió a la facultad del Departamento de Bellas Artes de la Universidad Mount Allison en 1977. En 2000 fue elegido por la Royal Canadian Academia de las Artes y en 2001 recibió una beca Fulbright.
Holownia ha recibido becas y premios del Consejo Canadiense para las Artes, el Consejo de Artes de Ontario, el Instituto Americano de Artes Gráficas, la Real Academia de las Artes de Canadá y el Consejo de Investigación en Ciencias Sociales y Humanidades.

Lynne Cohen, fotógrafa estadounidense-canadiense nacida en 1944 en Racine, Wisconsin.
Se educó en grabado y la escultura en la Universidad de Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin, y en Ann Arbor y la Universidad del Este de Michigan, Ypsilanti, Michigan. Estudió durante un año en la Slade School of Fine Art de Londres.
Cohen vivió y trabajó en Canadá desde 1973, inicialmente en Ottawa, y en Montreal desde 2005.
Enseñó y realizó talleres en varias instituciones, expuso ampliamente y sostuvo residencias de artistas a través de América del Norte y Europa.
En 2005 fue galardonada con el Premio del Gobernador General en Artes Visuales y medios.
Cohen fue conocida por sus fotografías de espacios interiores domésticos e institucionales, que incluyen salas de estar, salas públicas, residencias de ancianos, laboratorios, oficinas, salas de exposiciones, campos de tiro, fábricas, spas e instalaciones militares. Frank Van Deren Coke, F. Van Deren Coke, o Van Deren Coke, fotógrafo, académico y profesional de museos estadounidense nacido en 1921 en Lexington, Kentucky.
Fue el director fundador de la Universidad del Museo de Arte de Nuevo México. En 1970 - durante el último año de Beaumont Newhall - se desempeñó como Director Adjunto y en 1971-1972 como director de George Eastman House.
De 1979 a 1987 fue director del departamento de fotografía del Museo de San Francisco.
Murió en Albuquerque, Nuevo México, en 2004.

Hoy, 5 de Julio, es el cumple de

Zdeněk Tmej, fotógrafo checo nacido en Praga en 1920. Asistió a la escuela secundaria cerca de Praga, y luego en Praga (1933-1936). Fue aprendiz con el fotógrafo Karel Hajek desde 1936, y asistió a la Escuela Estatal de Artes Gráficas durante un año en 1939.
Tmej fue amigo y colaborador de Vaclav Chochola y Karel Ludwig.
Fue obligado a trabajos forzados en Breslau, Alemania, 1942-1944, que documentó con aproximadamente 100 fotografías del campo de trabajo.

On July 1 is the birthday of

Fritz Brill, German advertising artist, illustrator and photographer born in 1904, dedicated to industrial and advertising photography.
He was trained in Berlin Kunstgewerbeschule (school of arts and crafts), and Johannes Itten School. Since the '30s he lived in Berlin dedicated to photography. He worked on the study by Herbert Bayer and in 1932 founded a design studio together with Hedwig Bornemann.
In the decade of 1950 he founded the Institut für Photoanalyse, working for industrial clients and advertising. His work was quickly recognized by his style of art photography of objects. Instead of using the classic photo installation, he created montages with separate shots of each object and then combined to image layers, representing almost an anticipation of today's digital montages.

He emigrated with his family to Canada in 1954.
He attended the University of Windsor studying printmaking and communications and graduated in 1972. In 2000, Holownia was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts and in 2001, he received a Fulbright Fellowship.
Holownia has been the recipient of grants and awards from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, the American Institute of Graphic Arts, the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.

Lynne Cohen, American-Canadian photographer born in 1944 in Racine, Wisconsin.
She was educated in printmaking and sculpture at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin, and in Ann Arbor and Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti, Michigan. She studied for a year at the Slade School of Fine Art in London.
Cohen lived and worked in Canada since 1973, initially in Ottawa, and in Montreal since 2005.
She taught and provided workshops at several institutions, and has exhibited widely and held artist's residencies across North America and Europe.
In 2005, she was the recipient of the Governor General's Award in Visual and Media Arts.
Cohen was known for her photographs of domestic and institutional interior spaces, which have included living rooms, public halls, retirement homes, laboratories, offices, showrooms, shooting ranges, factories, spas, and military installations. Despite this interest in living and working spaces, Cohen's photographs are usually devoid of human presence.
Lynne Cohen died of lung cancer in 2014.

On July 4 is the birthday of

Frank Van Deren Coke, F. Van Deren Coke, or Van Deren Coke, American photographer, scholar and museum professional born in 1921 in Lexington, Kentucky, and died in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
He was the founding director of the University of New Mexico Art Museum. In 1970 - during Beaumont Newhall's final year - he served as Deputy Director and from 1971 to 1972 as Director of George Eastman House.
From 1979 to 1987 he was director of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art's photography department.
He died in 2004.

Today, July 5, is the birthday of

Zdeněk Tmej, Czech photographer born in Prague in 1920. He attended a secondary school near Prague, and then in Prague (1933-1936). He was apprentice with the photographer Karel Hajek since 1936, and attended the State School of Graphic Arts in 1939 for one year.
Tmej was a friend and collaborator of Vaclav Chochola and Karel Ludwig.
He was forced into hard labor in Breslau, Germany, from 1942 to 1944, which he documented with approximately 100 photographs of the labor camp.
Tmej was a member of a generation of Czech photographers who - stigmatized by their success during World War II and the period immediately following - were banished to oblivion after 1948 when Socialist Realism became the official trend of Czechoslovak photography and art in general.
Tmej joined Czechoslovak Fine Arts Union in 1949, and was imprisoned from 1958 to 1965.
He died in 2004.
