Rinocerontes / Rhinos (LXXXII)

Claudia Giraudo

"Il tempo cosmico / El tiempo cósmico / Cosmic Time"
Óleo sobre lienzo / oil on canvas, 70 x 60 cm., 2012

From Earth to Moon (Tribute to Georges Méliès)"
Óleo sobre lienzo / oil on canvas, 80 x 100 cm., 2012

"Phantasmagoria / Fantasmagoria", óleo sobre lienzo / oil on canvas, 110 x 93 cm., 2012

Claudia Giraudo is an Italian artist born in 1974 in Turin, where she currently lives and works.
Claudia began an introspective study after receiving her diploma from the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts in 2001 concentrating on the face as an intermediary messenger. Partially involving her personal experiences, combined with a message to decipher, as though the artist communicates through an unknown tongue, the viewer is required to translate through his or her own personal knowledge and experiences. By means of her symbols, Claudia gently places subjects on canvas who, as messengers, appear ethereal, evanescent, sprites of the air, and within the air, so thin and impalpable that they each deliquesce. Like actors unaware of the role they engage, Claudia Giraudo’s characters move upon a backcloth animated by matter that is also oneiric, almost as though to remind us that we, too, are made of the same material as dreams; and our brief lifetimes are but enclosed within the space and time of a dream.

"Phantasmagoria / Fantasmagoria" (detalle / detail)

"Rinomacinino / Rinomolinillo / Rhinogrinder"
Óleo sobre lienzo / oil on canvas, 30 x 30 cm., 2011

Claudia exhibits frequently on art fairs, private galleries and institutional public places. Her works also are in permanent collections at "Museo Eusebio" of the municipality of Alba (Cn) and at "Sala del Consiglio" of the municipality of Bossolasco (Cn).

"Piacevoli nodi / Nudos agradables / Pleasant Knots"
Óleo sobre papel / oil on paper, 35 x 50 cm., 2011

Paola Demicheli

Paola Demicheli was born in Montevideo, Uruguay in 1972, and currently lives in La Paloma, facing the ocean.
“In my workshop looking for that light, I have stopped to look and slide my fingers over the veins of timber, peeled and aged colors, which speak to me of a time that seems to beat and even require me to continue exploring, transforming, so that some way will continue to return those fishermen who went to the sea.”

Jeff MacNelly

Jeffrey Kenneth "Jeff" MacNelly is an American three-time Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist and the creator of the popular comic strip Shoe. After Shoe had been established in papers, MacNelly created the single-panel strip Pluggers.
He was born in 1947 in New York, and was educated in his teens at Phillips Academy in Massachusetts, where he was a class clown and decided to be an illustrator. He graduated in 1965 and went to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He joined the literary society St. Anthony Hall. He was accepted as a sports journalist and illustrator for The Daily Tar Heel and specialized in satire. He considered himself to be a horrible sports writer, but his illustrations for the paper were well beyond the ability of an average art student.
In 1977 he launched his first comic strip, Shoe, which was an immediate success. In 1981, he quit as editorial cartoonist at the News-Leader to focus on Shoe full-time, but found he needed to work in a newspaper office atmosphere to concentrate. In the 1980s, MacNelly moved to Chicago (to work for the Chicago Tribune) and eventually back to Virginia. Shoe was syndicated in 950 newspapers by 1986, with millions of readers. MacNelly's editorial cartoons often appeared in book collections.
MacNelly said: "Cartoons are really a negative art form. You never say anything nice. You're always criticizing and dumping on people."
He died in 2000.

Dawid Planeta

Entonces soy libre.» Rohvannyn Shaw

«One challenge at a time, I try to turn into the face of fear and tell it “you are not my master, you are the product of my self and I am your master.” I look into the monster’s eyes until it disappears. Then I am free.» Rohvannyn Shaw

In the post in Bored Panda where we can see this one and other images by the Polish graphic designer and web editor Dawid Planeta, we can read:
"Depression is not easy thing to deal with, but sometimes you can take your weakness and turn it into something beautiful.
That's exactly what polish artist Dawid Planeta did - to help himself he created an imaginary world where a small man is traveling through long forgotten jungle meeting his weaknesses and fears presented as giant animals with glowing eyes. The vision created by the artist is dark, mysterious, and very beautiful."
I strongly recommend the article (in Spanish) by Mafa Alborés in his blog "The Voice of the Invisible Animal", thanks to which I discovered this artist, in which he analyzes the reasons why the creations of Dawid Planet are so attractive to us, and why we identify so quickly and empathically with them.
