On March 7 is the birthday of

Fletcher Sibthorp, British artist born in Bricket Wood, Hertfordshire, England, in 1967.
He studied Illustration at Kingston University (then known as Kingston Polytechnic), graduating with Honours in 1989. During his studies there and immediately following graduation, Sibthorp developed a keen interest in exploring the idea of movement and its subsequent effect on the human form, usually experimenting in oil. His key influences at that time were the British painters Francis Bacon and Frank Auerbach, as well as artists Gustav Klimt and Edgar Degas.

Recently Fletcher has produced a number of artworks as part of an ongoing series called Quiet Space.
«Quiet Space represents for me, captured moments of human introspection and frailty, instants which exist and then are gone, whether an expression, the way light falls and catches the face, or a simple portrait. The simplicity of the paintings allows the viewer to naturally attach their own experiences and thoughts to the work.»
His work is housed in both private and corporate collections, mostly in the United Kingdom and Japan.

On March 8 is the birthday of

George Spencer Watson, English portrait artist of the late romantic school born in 1869, who sometimes worked in the style of the Italian Renaissance.

Lindenschmidt studied art in the academies at Munich and Vienna, returning to Munich in 1826 as an assistant to Peter von Cornelius (1783–1867). Here, he painted Sieg Ludwigs des Reichen über Albrecht Achilles von Brandenburg bei Giengen an der Brenz (Victory of Ludwig over Albrecht Achilles of Brandenburg at Giengen an der Brenz) in the arcades of the Hofgarten, as well as Leben des Leonardo da Vinci (Life of Leonardo da Vinci) on the loggia at Alte Pinakothek. Afterwards, he performed a series of frescos at the Castle of Hohenschwangau.
In 1830 he finished work on the fresco Die Bauernschlacht von Sendling 1705 (The Farmer's Battle of Sendling 1705) on the outer wall of the old parish church of St. Margaret in Sendling. Later in his career, he painted a series of frescos at the ducal castle of Lantlsberg in regards to the history of the House of Wettin.
He died in 1848.

On March 10 is the birthday of

Edward Bawden, English painter, illustrator and graphic artist born in 1903, known for his prints, book covers, posters, and garden metalwork furniture. He was a fine watercolour painter but worked in many different media. He illustrated several books and painted murals in both the 1930s and 1960s. He was admired by Edward Gorey, David Gentleman and other graphic artists, and his work and career is often associated with that of his contemporary Eric Ravilious.
At the age of seven he was enrolled at Braintree High School, and began studying or copying drawings of cats by Louis Wain, illustrations in boys' and girls' magazines, and Burne Jones's illustrations of Malory's Morte d'Arthur. Later his parents paid for him to attend the Friends' School at Saffron Walden, and there, when he was fifteen, the headmaster recommended him to study for one day a week at Cambridge School of Art. Upon leaving school in 1919 he attended Cambridge School of Art full-time from 1919 to 1921. This was followed in 1922 by a scholarship to the Royal College of Art School of Design in London, where he took a diploma in illustration until 1925.
During the Second World War Bawden served as an official war artist, first with the British army in France and then, following the army's evacuation from there, in the Middle East. He returned to England in 1944 and for a short while, painted at Southampton docks before departing for Yugoslavia, by way of Rome. Unable to enter Yugoslavia he went to Ravenna, then Greece, Austria and Florence before travelling back to England in July 1945.
During his early period, Bawden produced the tiles for the London Underground that were exhibited at the International Building Trades Exhibition at Olympia in April 1928.
Bawden lived in Great Bardfield, Essex from the 1930s to 1970. While living there, he was an important member of the group of local artists Great Bardfield Artists. After the death of his wife in 1970, Bawden moved to the nearby town of Saffron Walden, where he continued to work until his death at home on 21 November 1989.

Today, March 11, is the birthday of

Terry Setch, British painter and Royal Academy (RA) member, born in London in 1936, who lives in Penarth, Wales.
He attended Saturday classes at Sutton and Cheam School of Art, followed by a degree course at the Slade School of Fine Art, London. While at college he was recognised and took part in the Young Contemporaries exhibitions in 1957, 1959 and 1960. He moved to Cardiff, Wales in June 1964 to become senior painting lecturer at Cardiff College of Art.
He was a member of the 56 Group Wales from 1966 until 1979, later saying he left because it had become too risk adverse and part of the establishment.
Setch styles himself as a 'political' artist, taking the threats to the environment as an important subject. Much of his recent inspiration has been taken from his local South Wales beaches. "There are issues of waste, the enormous amount of waste and the threat to the environment" he said at his retrospective exhibition in 2011. His paintings have included CND campaigns and the Chernobyl nuclear disaster as their subjects.
Setch retired from teaching in 2001.
He was elected as a Royal Academician in 2009.
