Rinocerontes (LXXIV) - Mary Sprague, Publicidad / Advertising

Mary Sprague

Mary Sprague, el Estudio / the Studio

Mary Sprague, longtime Professor Emeritus of Art and Art History at Meramec Community College, is an American printer, painter and ceramic artist born in northern California.
After completing her Bachelor and Master of Arts at Stanford University in California, she moved with her husband and four children to the Midwest and has been immersed in the St. Louis art community for the past forty years. Her persona has been described as,“a lively and openhanded mix of infection friendliness” and “a woman who lives her life head on with gusto and good humor” (James Yood, on Mary Sprague).
Sprague’s expansive repertoire of style and content has included notable studies of mysterious domestic interiors, vibrant equestrians, and currently chickens with a certain extra amount of cluck. “Sprague’s big drawings, some are more than six feet tall, do what a lot of largescale drawings from nature fail to do – they preserve the spontaneity of small life sketches while offering up magnified views of beautiful natural forms” (Margaret Hawkins, Chicago Sun Times). Trained in an era of abstract expressionism, Sprague has been able to combine color and form from multiple eras to suit her own tastes and unique almost caricatures of domestic American scenery.

From the years 2009 and 2010 are these rhinos made using various techniques.

The Studio
In the mid-80s, when all her kids moved out, she decided to invest — with a handful of other art-centric and forward-thinking folks — in a five-story former lightbulb warehouse in a rough and mostly commercial neighborhood in midtown St. Louis. The building was totally raw, with just a freight elevator and no interior walls.
Over the years, Mary carved out a home in her portion of the building, as need and opportunities arose. This included trading artwork for a 50s-style metal kitchen and "wallpapering" with printing plates left behind by another artist friend. In the process, her paintings and sculptures grew up around her, as much a part of the space as her furniture or fixtures. Yet the large, mainly open space is carefully organized, with distinct areas for sitting and sleeping. Even the many bits and pieces of found objects that comprise her sculptures are carefully displayed.

Adrants

This one comes from Brazil and it's for energy drink TNT.
Created by Y&R Brazil, we have a very civilized rhinoceros making his way to the gym while wearing earphones and grooving to the music.

If you think it's strange that no one freaks out that there's a rhinoceros on the loose in the city, that's because the rhino is not really a rhino. Once the rhino gets to the gym and looks into the mirror, it's revealed that the rhino is really UFC featherweight boxing champ Jose AldoAdrants

Rhino horn is made of the same stuff as human nails. Still want some?
Rhino horn does not cure illness. If this fact is new to you, consider this: rhino horn is largely made of keratin, the same stuff that makes up your finger nails and toes nails. Don’t use rhino horn, it’s as useless as swallowing your own fingernails.
Save a rhino. Say no to rhino horn.
