Most of the works, as well as information about them, comes, not surprisingly, from Chinese sources, so I appreciate any clarification, correction or additional information about the paintings and/or artists.

Lin Yue
林跃

"La llamada / The Call"

Lin Yue was born in 1961 in Shandong Province of China. He graduated from the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute and is now the vice chairman of the Sichuan Fine Arts Association and the visiting professor of the Southwest University for Nationalities.
During the past twelve years, Lin Yue has created many pieces of artistic works that represent the life of Tibetan mastiffs. His works is deeply symbolic of the characteristics of the Tibetan mastiff, i.e. loyalty, tenacity, majesty and robustness. Loyalty, the core value embodied in his works is supplemented with other philosophical ideas such as love and awe for life.

«I am also amazed by their grand and strong posture, bravery and alertness and moved by their spirit of maintaining a friendly and kind relationship with the human beings, their loyalty to their masters and spirit of guarding them.
I think my paintings are the genuine and realistic descriptions of the dogs and my praise of them is out of my pious religious feelings. What I wanted to do is to show my inner desire, respect to and love of life with the natural, tranquil, caring and harmonious life displayed in my paintings.»

Lin Yue recalls being terrified when the gigantic dog leapt for his throat with a "roar".
His horror melted into curiosity when the Tibetan mastiff halted its attack upon his master's command.
«I had never seen such beautiful but ferocious dogs. I had never even heard of them, actually. Their appearances and behavior fascinated me, so I took photographs and studied them for hours that night.»

"Égloga en la pradera / Eclogue on the Grassland", óleo sobre lienzo / oil on canvas, 2010

His goal after graduating was to become a portrait painter.
"I would have ended up being a mediocre portraitist if I hadn't visited Aba," he says. Lin was captivated by colorful ethnic cultures and decided to dwell among them to discover inspiration. His encounter with the mastiff occurred on his first night in Aba and led him to devote his life to depicting these "lion-like dogs".
Lin travels throughout the Tibetan settlements of Sichuan, Qinghai and Gansu provinces and the Tibet autonomous region every year to photograph the people and their dogs.

Fang Chuxiong was born in 1950 in Shantou City, Guangdong Province. Currently he is a member of the Chinese Artists Association and lecturer of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts.
He graduated from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts.

His solid painting technique and years of pursuit and research of art make his painting skillfully integrate characteristics of Hai painting school and Lingnan painting school. His painting is engaging and bright, especially his small-sized flower and bird paintings which embodies strong pastoral flavor.
But here we focus on his dogs, a variety of breeds (Tibetan mastiffs, Huskys, German shepherds and puppies), in pairs or groups, and almost always surrounded by flowers and trees.
