This work received the First Prize for Visual Arts at Bicentennial contests that were held during the celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the birth of José Artigas and 200 years of the Emancipation Process of Uruguay.

Juan Manuel Blanes
“Artigas en la Ciudadela / Artigas at the Citadel
Óleo sobre tela, inconcluso / oil on canvas, unfinished, 119 x 182 cm., 1884

Museo Histórico Nacional (Montevideo, Uruguay)

Peralta joins in his canvas two figures, two works of art, "Artigas at the Citadel" by Juan Manuel Blanes and "Artigas in Hervidero" by Carlos María de Herrera but in a particular way. Blanes painting predominates but on painter's ladder is lofty, though much smaller, Carlos María de Herrera's.
"I did the Artigas of Hervidero tiny because so is taken into the history books. The Blanes' is the official and the other is, besides being historically accurate (it was the only time Artigas ruled something), it is not so well known. Just as with the pictures too with the true story of Artigas "reveals Peralta.
"He was never in the gate of the Citadel and I think he was only in a couple of the sites of Montevideo. I want to highlight and recover the Protector of the Free Peoples, Head of dirty gauchos and Indians who followed him feeling Orientales, not Uruguayans. Ultimately for me the venerable Artigas was the federalist."

He also delved, like many of his contemporaries, into the genre of nativismo, painting scenes of gauchos and criollos. He also painted in the historical genre, his most popular works in this genre being Congreso de Abril de 1813 and Artigas en el Hervidero, which appears on the reverse of the $1000 note.
Some of his portraits are in permanent display in the National Museum of Visual Arts in Montevideo.
He died in 1914.

Philippe de Champaigne
"Cardenal / Cardinal Richelieu", óleo sobre lienzo / oil on canvas, 222 x 155 cm., c.1639.

Richelieu en "El Hurgador" / in this blog[Sucesiones (II-1)]

Philippe de Champaigne was a French Baroque era painter, a major exponent of the French school.
Born of a poor family in Brussels (Duchy of Brabant, Southern Netherlands, 1602), Champaigne was a pupil of the landscape painter Jacques Fouquières. In 1621 he moved to Paris, where he worked with Nicolas Poussin on the decoration of the Palais du Luxembourg under the direction of Nicolas Duchesne.
According to Houbraken, Duchesne was angry at Champaigne for becoming more popular than he was at court, and this is why Champaigne returned to Brussels to live with his brother. It was only after he received news of Duchesne's death that he returned to marry his daughter. After the death of his protector Duchesne, Champaigne worked for the Queen Mother, Marie de Medicis, and for Cardinal Richelieu, (for whom he decorated the Palais Cardinal), the dome of the Sorbonne and other buildings. He was a founding member of the Académie de peinture et de sculpture in 1648.
He died in 1674.
