El 29 de Diciembre es el cumple de

Pablo Pérez-Mínguez Poch, fotógrafo español nacido en 1946 que realizó diversas iniciativas en favor del arte fotográfico: revistas como Nueva Lente, proyectos como el Photocentro, el Fotomuseo de Alcalá de Henares, etc. Sin embargo, fue más conocido por ser retratista de la movida madrileña.
En su adolescencia se inicia en la técnica fotográfica mediante un curso por correspondencia, hecho compartido con otros fotógrafos de esos años al ser de los pocos recursos formativos existentes en el campo fotográfico.
Durante los años de la movida participa activamente siendo uno de sus fotográfos más destacados. Realizó retratos a la mayoría de sus protagonistas con un estilo muy personal, además ha producido una parte importante del material gráfico de la movida. En su estudio se realizaron diferentes actividades e incluso se rodaron escenas de la película Laberinto de pasiones de Pedro Almodóvar. Tras los años de la movida colabora en la radio, funda una galería de arte y participa en numerosas actividades fotográficas.
Murió en 2012.

El 30 de Diciembre es el cumple de

William Eugene Smith, reportero gráfico estadounidense nacido en Wichita, Kansas, en 1918.
Smith se graduó en la High School North Wichita en 1936. Empezó su carrera realizando fotografías para dos periódicos locales, "The Eagle" y "The Beacon". Se mudó a New York y comenzó a trabajar para el Newsweek y comenzó a ser conocido por su incesante perfeccionismo y su personalidad. Eugene Smith salió de Newsweek por negarse a usar cámaras de formato medio, uniéndose a la revista Life en 1939, pero dimitió al poco tiempo.
Trabajó como corresponsal para la publicación Ziff-Davis, y de nuevo para la revista Life; Smith fotografió la Segunda Guerra Mundial desde las fronteras de las islas estadounidenses, realizando las fotografías de la ofensiva estadounidense contra Japón y tomando fotos de los marines estadounidenses y de los prisioneros de guerra japoneses en Saipán, Guam, Iwo Jima y Okinawa.
Murió en 1978.

Robert Witten Fichter, fotógrafo estadounidense nacido en 1939.
Asistió a la Universidad de Florida, Gainesville, donde estudió con Jerry Uelsmann, Ken Kerslake y Jack Nicholsen, y recibió su licenciatura en Bellas Artes en 1963. Continuó sus estudios con Henry Holmes Smith de la Universidad de Indiana, Bloomington, obteniendo una Maestría en Bellas Artes en 1966.
Ese mismo año se trasladó a Rochester, Nueva York y trabajó como curador adjunto de Exposiciones del Museo Internacional de Fotografía George Eastman House trabajando con Nathan Lyons. En 1969 Nathan Lyons fundó Visual Studies Workshop, un centro artístico de educación y medios de comunicación sin fines de lucro con el que Fichter mantendría una asociación duradera.
Al salir de la Casa Eastman en 1968, Fichter se convirtió en profesor asistente en la UCLA, donde enseñó con Robert Heinecken y Todd Walker.
Hasta la fecha, Fichter ha presentado más de cuarenta exposiciones individuales; incluyendo una gran retrospectiva, "Robert Fichter: Fotografía y otras cuestiones" en 1982. Con origen en el Museo Internacional de Fotografía George Eastman, Rochester, Nueva York, esta exposición estuvo de gira por todo el país entre 1982-85. También ha participado en cientos de exposiciones colectivas. Fichter también ha publicado numerosos trabajos, coordinado numerosas exposiciones de fotografía y dado conferencias en todo el país.

Hoy, 31 de Diciembre, es el cumple de

Michelle J. Wong, fotógrafo, periodista y escritor costarricense nacido en Heredia en 1979.
A los 14 años abandonó su hogar y empezó a recorrer el mundo. En el año 2003, se estableció en Santa Bárbara (California), donde comenzó sus estudios en periodismo y se convirtió en fotógrafo.
Durante el año 2009 se desempeñó como asistente de edición fotográfica en el estudio de Steve McCurry de la National Geographic en la ciudad de Nueva York. Wong ha trabajado como fotógrafo y periodista alrededor del mundo. Además, Wong mostró su faceta de escritor publicando por primera vez su poesía en el año 2008 en la revista internacional Afinidades Electivas.
Su trabajo en fotoperiodismo ha sido presentado en exposiciones de fotografía en la Escuela de Relaciones Públicas e Internacionales en la Universidad de Columbia, Washington DC, California, Nueva York, Costa Rica y Sudamérica, y ha ganado el premio National Geographic Photography Contest Galleries 2010. En el 2011, Wong fue premiado por su trabajo por la National Press Photographers Association (NPPA).

Luis Benito Ramos, fotógrafo colombiano nacido en 1899.
Gracias a una beca del gobierno colombiano, estudió en la Escuela de Bellas Artes de París de 1928 a 1934. Allí conoció la obra de Henri Cartier-Bresson y otros fotógrafos gracias a los cuales comenzó a definir un estilo y gusto propios.
A su regresó a Colombia abandonó parcialmente la pintura para dedicarse a la fotografía. Durante diez años absorbió gran parte de su tiempo dejando la pintura como un pasatiempo secundario. Sorprendió a los otros fotógrafos que todavía utilizaban equipos más grandes y pesados con su cámara fotográfica rolleicord que había comprado y aprendido a utilizar en Europa, lo que le permitió tener mayor libertad y versatilidad para la composición fotográfica. Más tarde utilizaría una cámara Rolleiflex.
El 22 de agosto de 1938 inauguró una exposición en el Teatro Municipal de Bogotá. Su obra se correspondía con la sensibilidad cultural nacionalista del momento, en una época en la que el regionalismo era la línea dominante en la producción artística. La crítica contemporánea reparó en la alta calidad de sus imágenes, que hoy permiten calificarlo como uno de los más importantes fotógrafos latinoamericanos de los años ´30.
Murió en 1955.

On December 29 is the birthday of

Pablo Perez-Minguez Poch, Spanish photographer born in 1946 who performed various initiatives in favor of photographic art: magazines like Nueva Lente / New Lens, projects like Photocentro, the Photmuseum of Alcalá de Henares, etc. However, he was best known as a portraitist of La Movida Madrilaeña / The Madrilenian Scene.
In his teens he started in the photographic technique through a correspondence course, a fact shared with other photographers of those years when training resources in the photographic field were very few.
During the years of the Madrilenian Scene actively participates as one of its most prominent photographers. He made portraits of most of its protagonists with a very personal style, he has also produced a major part of the artwork of that movement. In his study different activities took place and even scenes from the movie Labyrinth of Passion by Pedro Almodóvar were shot. After the years of the Madrilenian Scene he worked in radio, he founded an art gallery and participates in numerous photographic activities.
He died in 2012.

On December 30 is the birthday of

Smith graduated from the High School North Wichita in 1936. He began his career taking pictures for two local newspapers, "The Eagle" and "The Beacon". He moved to New York and began working for Newsweek. Soon he became known for his relentless perfectionism and personality. Eugene Smith left Newsweek for refusing to use medium format cameras, joining Life magazine in 1939, but resigned shortly.
He worked as a correspondent for Ziff-Davis publication, and again for Life magazine; Smith photographed World War II from the borders of the US islands, making photographs of the American offensive against Japan and taking pictures of the US Marines and Japanese prisoners of war in Saipan, Guam, Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
He died in 1978.

He attended the University of Florida, Gainesville, where he studied under Jerry Uelsmann, Ken Kerslake and Jack Nicholsen and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1963. He continued his studies under Henry Holmes Smith at Indiana University, Bloomington earning a Masters of Fine Arts in 1966.
That same year Fichter moved to Rochester, NY and worked as an Assistant Curator of Exhibitions at George Eastman House International Museum of Photography working under Nathan Lyons. In 1969, Nathan Lyons founded Visual Studies Workshop, a non-profit education and media arts center with which Fichter would maintain a lasting association.
Leaving the Eastman House in 1968, Fichter became an Assistant Professor at UCLA, where he taught with Robert Heinecken and Todd Walker. 
To date, Fichter has had more than forty one-person shows; including a major retrospective, Robert Fichter: Photography and Other Questions, in 1982. Originating at the George Eastman International Museum of Photography, Rochester, New York, this exhibition toured the country from 1982-85. He has also participated in hundreds of group exhibitions. Fichter has also published extensively, coordinated numerous photography exhibitions and given lectures all around the country.

Today, December 31, is the birthday of

Michelle J. Wong, photographer, journalist and writer born in Heredia, Costa Rica, in 1979.
At 14 he left home and began to travel the world. In 2003, he settled in Santa Barbara (California), where he began his studies in journalism and became a photographer.
In 2009 he served as assistant photo editing in the study of Steve McCurry of National Geographic in the city of New York. Wong has worked as a photographer and journalist around the world. Thanks to a grant from the Colombian government, he studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris from 1928 to 1934. There he met the work of Henri Cartier-Bresson and other photographers through which began to define his own style and taste.
Upon returned to Colombia partially abandoned painting to devote to photography. For ten years photography absorbed much of his time leaving the painting as a side hobby. He surprised the other photographers who were still using larger and heavier equipment with his camera Rolleicord he had bought and learned to use in Europe, allowed him to have more freedom and versatility for photographic composition. Later he used a Rolleiflex camera.
On August 22, 1938 opened an exhibition at the Municipal Theater of Bogota. His work corresponded with the nationalist cultural sensitivity of the moment, in a time when regionalism was the dominant line in artistic production. Contemporary critics noticed the high quality of his images, which now allow qualify as one of the most important Latin American photographers of the 30s.
He died in 1955.
