Haroshi [Escultura]

Haroshi

"Gran Manzana / Big Apple", tablas de skate usadas / used skateboards, 24 x 21 x 21 cm., 2011

"Mi mano gritando / Screaming My Hand", tablas de skate usadas / used skateboards, 25 x 18 x 13 cm., 2010

"Cráneo / Skull", tablas de skate usadas, ruedas, brackets y diente de oro 18 k./
used skateboards, wheels, dental braces and 18-karat gold teeth, 22 x 13 x 17 cm.

Haroshi is, in his own words, "an artist from Tokyo".
A skating lover since he was a teenager, one day he decided to begin experiments with the possibilities of used skateboards as a raw material for sculptures.
Haroshi lives in Horikiri (Tokyo, Japan) and works in a shared space in a factory.

He often goes around picking up and collecting broken skateboard parts, and feels reluctant to throw away crashed skateboards. It’s only natural that he began to make art pieces (i.e. recycling) by using skateboards. To Haroshi, his art pieces are equal to his skateboards, and that means they are his life itself. They’re his communication tool with both himself, and the outside world.

"Agonía en la belleza / Agony into beauty", tablas de skate usadas / used skateboards
"Boca de incendios de Los Angeles / L.A. Fire Hydrant", 2011

«I’m self-taught. (...) Like learning while creating stuff with one’s own hands. That’s really exciting, and now I’m creating at the maximum of my possibilities, bringing my next work to the next step. It’s something possible if one thinks he can do it, and if you can do it for 8 years… ahah!»

"SpitFire Classic"
Técnica mixta (partes de tablas de skate usadas) / mixed media (used skateboard parts), 53 x 53 x 35 cm.

"Alce / Moose", tablas de skate usadas / used skateboards, 138 x 145 x 110 cm., 2010

«Uhm…in the most of the cases I just feel like it would be cool to make one particular thing. I don’t think too difficult things. Making what I want, and having someone who is interested in what I make is the best thing.»

"Cat Plant", 116 x 74 x 43 cm.

Half Cab
"Pie con zapato invisible / Foot with Invisible Shoe"
Tablas de skate usadas y resina epoxi / used skateboards and epoxy resin, 23,5 x 12 x 28 cm.

«I’ve done the hammerhead shark and Fire-Hydrant in about two months I think? The working process is yet very simple. Cutting, stacking together, smoothing…nah maybe here I should that it’s all about magic haha!»

The fire hydrant was sculpted from a block made out of 20000 pieces of 1 cm cubes.

"Boca de incendios / Fire Hydrant", tablas de skate usadas / used skateboards, 83,8 x 35,6 x 38,1 cm.

"Tiburón martillo / Hammerhead Shark", tablas de skate usadas / used skateboards, 2011

«...when you start anything the first time you can’t do it, right? When I tried doing an ollie the first time I couldn’t even imagine jumping a fire hydrant. It’s the same thing with carving, or with the blind touch on a computer. If you keep trying always and always, one day you will be a professional without even realising it. One important element that I learnt from skate is that keep trying on things that you can’t do without giving up, that will bring you to the end when you make it. Another thing is being free. I can make what I want, I can skate where I want, that’s being free. But at the same time there are risks. That’s what I think art and skate are.»
