Morten E. Solberg Sr. [Acuarela]

Morten E. Solberg Sr.

"Vuelo matinal, Garza ceniza / Morning Flight, Great Blue Heron", acuarela / watercolor, 20" x 30"

"En el viento / In To The Wind", acuarela y acrílico / watercolor & acrylic, 30" x 40"

"Cruzando el Madison / Crossing The Madison", acuarela / watercolor

"Viaje a la zona pantanosa / Journey to the Wintering Ground", acuarela / watercolor, 13" x 26"

Morten E. Solberg Sr. is an American painter born in 1935.
Versatile in all mediums, he paints in oil, acrylic and watercolor and his techniques range from photo-realism to total abstraction. Here I focus in what I find more interesting: watercolors in which almost abstract backgrounds are transmuted into landscapes full of light and color thanks to the presence of animals depicted in highly realistic style.

"Águila Real / Golden Eagle", acuarela / watercolor, trabajo por encargo / commision, 22" x 30"

"Comienzo del harén / Beginning Of The Harem", acuarela / watercolor, 18" x 30"

Mort attended The Cleveland Institute Of Art studying painting and design. He shed his commercial ties and concentrated on fine art and has been painting full time since 1970. After moving to Southern California's Orange County in 1968, he firmly established himself in the art world with memberships in the American Watercolor Society, the National Watercolor Society, the Society of Animal Artists, Wildlife Artists of the World, Knickerbocker Artists and the Society of Master Impressionists, as a lifetime Master member.

"Grizzly", acuarela / watercolor, 11" x 14"

"Alas maravillosas / Wings of Wonder", acuarela / watercolor, 24 1/2" x 37 1/2", 1986

"Luz matinal, Alce / Morning light, Moose", acuarela / watercolor, 14" x 22"

«I read every nature book I could get my hands on. I would go to the library with my father, who would be researching something, and take home 4 or 5 books to read. It would take me a long time to read them because I have dyslexia, but did not know it. That's why school was so tough. Nature was my outlet. Stories of grizzly bears and mountain lions, African lions and Indian tigers, and anything else that was wild and free. Strangely when I started painting it was landscapes and figurative art but I would still illustrate reports for my friends and family that were still in school with wildlife drawings.»

"La percha / The Perch", acuarela / watercolor, 13" x 11"

"Mi momento / My Time", acuarela / watercolor, 18 "x 30"

His paintings have graced the covers of numerous magazines, and he has been featured in American Artist, Wildlife Art News, Art West, Watercolor, Sports Afield, Sporting Classic, Southwest Art and Orange County Illustrated. In 1986, American Artist chose Mort as their "Artist of the Year".
Mort's interests are many and varied and they are often reflected in his art. American Indian history and culture hold a special allure for Mort, perhaps because his great grandmother was Native American. Norwegian whalers and explorers are among his ancestors. Wildlife, romantic women with parasols, flowers, fisherman, cowboys and nature have provided him with endless colors and shapes with which to design.
